  • Author: Thomas
  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 mins

Description

This hearty casserole combines tender potatoes, seasoned ground beef, and a creamy, cheesy topping for a comforting one-pan meal. Perfect for busy weeknights, it’s easy to prepare and will satisfy the whole family!

Ingredients

Scale

For the casserole:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 45 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Optional: garlic powder or other seasonings (paprika, Italian seasoning)

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat the oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and let it fully heat up.

2️⃣ Cook the ground beef: In a skillet, brown the ground beef with the chopped onion over medium heat. Season with salt, black pepper, and optional garlic powder or other seasonings. Cook until the beef is no longer pink and the onions are softened, then drain excess fat if needed.

3️⃣ Layer the casserole: Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish. Arrange the thinly sliced potatoes evenly in the bottom of the dish.

4️⃣ Assemble the layers: Spread the cooked ground beef and onions over the layer of potatoes.

5️⃣ Prepare the sauce: In a bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup and milk until smooth. Pour this mixture evenly over the meat and potatoes in the casserole dish.

6️⃣ Add cheese: Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top of the casserole, ensuring it covers the entire surface.

7️⃣ Bake: Cover the casserole with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. After 45 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the potatoes are tender.

8️⃣ Serve: Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your delicious, comforting meal!

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can sprinkle some grated Parmesan cheese on top with the cheddar or mix in a few tablespoons of sour cream to the soup mixture.
  • If you prefer a healthier version, you can substitute the cream of mushroom soup with a homemade version or use low-fat milk and cheese.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days and can easily be reheated in the microwave or oven.
